'''Monolith''' is a common term for [[adventure map]] locations, that visually resemble gates. They can be used to instantly travel between similar, visually associated monoliths. There are two functionally different monolith types: one-way and two-way.

There can be several exit gates, in which case the destination will be chosen randomly. If an exit tile is occupied by a player's hero, other heroes are not able to teleport to that location (and heroes cannot interact, unlike the surface/underground [[Subterranean Gate]]s situation). If an exit is closed by an enemy's hero, there will be a battle.

If an enemy hero enters a monolith at the open part of the adventure map, its exit point will be "shown" even if it is located in a shrouded area.

Monoliths cannot be located on [[water]] [[tile]]s. Water has a similar traveling method called [[Whirlpool]]s, but it usually kills some of your troops.

Two-way monoliths can be repeatedly traversed, without spending any movement points, by pressing the space bar (not in {{roe}}).
